Crystal Pools would not exist today if it weren’t for the vision and perseverance of our beloved patriarch, Verne Brown. Verne moved to Massachusetts from Upstate New York in 1949. He met and married his wife Nancy, a Bellingham native, and settled in town. After installing an inground pool in his own backyard, he recognized the need for a local business

that specialized in pools, service and supplies. Verne began Crystal Industries in 1959, working from home, eventually incorporating in 1966. The company quickly grew into the regional leader in pool services and supplies that it is today. To accommodate that growth, Verne built a 7,000 square foot warehouse at 95 Mechanic Street (Rte. 140), Bellingham, where we are still located today.

While Verne has recently retired, the business is very much a family affair, recently welcoming its fourth generation! Verne’s son Don has been by his side since the beginning. Don’s daughter Kim DiChiara is at the helm as President. Behind the counter, Don’s daughter Cindy and grandsons Keenan, Jimmy and Timmy serve their customers with pride.

Over 50 years since its founding, Verne Brown's vision has grown into one of the largest, locally-owned Pool and Spa retail stores, a rarity in this age of box stores and impersonal customer service. All of us at Crystal Industries owe a debt of gratitude to Verne. Much of Bellingham and the surrounding communities would say the same thing!
